The Community Emergency Response Volunteers of the Monterey Peninsula (CERV) hosted its first Train-the-Trainers Workshop on Emergency Preparedness for Vulnerable Populations on January 30, 2020. Throughout 2020, CERV is offering a series of workshops to support the capacity of the amazing community- based, non-profit organizations who are participating in the 2020 Listos California Campaign in Monterey County.
More than 40 participants from 14 organizations attended. Each organization serves Monterey County’s most vulnerable population groups. Together with CERV, they will all be working to increase the capacity of their constituents to prepare for future emergencies and disasters. Too often, people with disabilities, chronic health conditions, children with special needs and the elderly…people with vulnerabilities, do not fare well in a disaster. Our shared goal is to increase the resilience of each person/family so they are “ready” to respond to a localized emergency or a larger regional incident.
The workshop covered a range of 12 different disaster readiness topics. Trainers were Harvey Pressman (project director, CERV Advisory Council); Sarah Blackstone (project CFO, CERV Board of Directors); Wanda Vollmer (Founder,Peace of Mind Preparedness) . Goals were to provide information and training strategies to help each organization approach their unique constituencies in ways that will improve their readiness and enhance their resilience.
Together, these organizations will provide intensive emergency readiness training to more than 1800 people in just one year. Together, we will make a difference for Monterey County’s families and communities.
