PG&E Community Resilience Program

PG&E Community Resilience Program

Posted by CERV Team on

From extreme weather to rising sea levels, the threat that climate change poses to communities across California is becoming all too apparent. In an effort to promote local resilience to climate change, PG&E plans to invest $2 million over five years in shareholder-funded grants through the Better Together Resilient Communities grant program to support local climate resilience initiatives.

The Community Emergency Response Volunteers of the Monterey Peninsula (CERV) is partnering with the Big Sur CERT Program so that, together, we can reach everyone in the Big Sur area (and beyond). The Pacific Gas & Electric Company is supporting us and other local non-profit community-based organizations across California in this effort.

Building local READINESS across our diverse communities is the goal. Please join us in this campaign, and look for important messages from us that can help you get READY to respond to any fire threat.

Now in its third year, the 2019 PG&E Resilient Communities grant program will focus on the critical issue of wildfire risk. To that end, PG&E will fund four $100,000 grants that build community capacity to reduce wildfire risk and support healthy and resilient forests and watersheds. Priority will be given to projects located in elevated or extreme fire risk areas and to those that address the needs of environmental and social justice communities.

The Community Emergency Response Volunteers of the Monterey Peninsula (CERV) has been awarded a grant from PG&E to help build awareness about these concerns with a focus on assisting the communities of Big Sur and their Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program.
